DNA Health
DNAHealth DNA Health reports on genes involved in the following biological areas:
Lipid metabolism | Bone health | Methylation and B vitamin requirements | Insulin sensitivity and risk for diabetes | Detoxification, inflammation and oxidative stress | Food responsiveness: gluten intolerance, lactose intolerance, caffeine processing, salt sensitivity and iron overload disorders | Vitamin requirements

DNA Health tests for genetic variations that are known to have a significant effect on health and susceptibility to chronic diseases such as osteoporosis, cancer, neural tube defects, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes amongst others.

DNA Health is our flagship test and is often the first test we recommend since it provides comprehensive insights regarding your major metabolic processes. These processes are
  • Lipid metabolism, particularly indicating whether your body has issues relating to cholesterol metabolism
  • Methylation: responsible for a number of processes in the body particularly in making and repairing DNA
  • Inflammation: a double-edged sword responsible for healing but if you have an upregulated inflammatory response due to some genetic variations, it can lead to chronic inflammatory conditions
  • Detoxification: genetic variations and deletions in this biological process can put you at risk for chronic diseases because of compromised detoxification pathways
  • Insulin sensitivity: impacts on susceptibility to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease
  • Bone health
  • Oxidative stress: relates to how your body responds to and is inclined to create free radicals causing damage at a cellular level
  • Responsiveness to vitamins and vitamin metabolism in the body: specific enzymes required to metabolise, transport and assist with absorption of vitamins can be compromised due to incorrect or non-expression of the required genes.
The outcomes of the above gene information provide a thorough road map to begin your journey to optimal health.

DNA Risk
DNA Risk ScreeningDNA Risk is a category of gene tests that reports on the risk of certain disorders by analysing associated genetic variations.
DNA Risk assists in screening at-risk individuals, increasing early identification, improving prevention, offering diagnostic insights, and guiding therapy decisions.

DNA Risk (HLA-Related Autoimmunity)

Autoimmune Diseases and Genetics

Autoimmune diseases occur when the immune system fails to distinguish self from non-self, resulting in a breach of tolerance and the likelihood of inflammation or tissue damage in specific organs or multiple organ systems. Various genetic and environmental factors have been found to contribute to autoimmune disorders. One of the strongest genetic associations is linked to the MHC (Major Histocompatibility Complex) region and their related gene products, the Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA’s).

DNA Risk HLA-Related Autoimmunity

The comprehensive DNA Risk HLA-Related Autoimmunity (HLA test) looks at gene variants related to common autoimmune diseases and provides ‘diagnostic insight’ for patients already suffering from an autoimmune disorder, or who are identified as at risk due to a family history of disease and exposure to environmental risk factors.

The Report

The report presents the HLA alleles and genotype data in a user-friendly manner, followed by a brief description of the relevant autoimmune disorders, insights into environmental contributors, and risk (and protective) HLA alleles and MHC-related gene variants related to the disorders.

THE AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES DISCUSSED IN THE REPORT INCLUDE:
  • Alopecia areata (AA)
  • Ankylosing spondylitis (AS)
  • Coeliac disease (CD)
  • Graves’ disease (GD)
  • Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT)
